Crochet/lacing vs adhesive

Question
QUESTION: I read where you use adhesive on your filet crochet pieces, wouldn't the adhesive eventually dry, thus causing the piece to "fall" inside the framing??

ANSWER: Hi Edee,
I answered this question right after you sent it but I just noticed that it is shown as "pending".  Sorry, I don't know what I did wrong.

Anyway, I use the spray fabric adhesive I get at Hancock's fabrics for many years and haven't had any come unglued yet.  Of course I have them matted and the glass is also pressed up agains it.

I had used a craft chain store to lace a couple of name doilies that I had done.  I was very disappointed in their work because it was "laced" with little plastic clips from a gun you can buy off the shelf.  It's the same process used to put price tags on items.  Not only that, but even though they were clear, they showed and they were crooked.  I tried to lace one myself and the mat was too stiff and wanted to bend.

I suppose you could lace crochet down with thread in a few places and then glue it also.  Let me know if you know of a way that works.

QUESTION: I have mine done at "Hobby Lobby". This particular store does excellent lacing work (invisible)and the crochet does not touch the glass. The 2nd and 3rd mat are raised away from the main mat that the crochet is laced onto. This is why I was concerned about the adhesive drying out and the piece falling.

Answer
Hobby Lobby is the store I used also, obviously a different one.  The plastic clips showed all around the piece, was crooked and I would be more afraid of the plastic breaking down and getting sticky than the adhesive.  I've had some adhesive ones done for 18 years and are fine.  I'm glad you had good luck at the H.L. in your area.

Traditional Crochet and Filet Crochet (not clothes) I do more thread crochet than yarn.

Experience

I have been crocheting for over 50 years. As a child growing up in New Orleans, LA, I had aunts and older cousins who taught me, but now they are all gone and sadly, there is no one who crochets in my area. I hope to be able to meet fellow crocheters through this website, and I'd be delighted if I could help someone answer a question. I'm sure I'll be asking my share, also. I specifically enjoy doilies and afghans. I really like designing filet crochet. I don't make clothes, other than hats and scarves.

Education/Credentials
I learned as a child in the 50's from aunts and older cousins.
