Question
QUESTION: How much yarn should I buy.  The original pattern I will us which is just for a throw calls for 5 skiens of Red Heart Super Saver of one color and 2 skiens of another color, using H hook. this throw measures 52 x 59.  Therefore, I need to adjust for the queen size throw.  Thanks.

ANSWER: Hi Claudette,
It would help to know what size throw you want to make.  Do you want it to cover the bed completely with an overhang? If you give me a measurement, I will help you figure your yarn.

It's hard to be exact, but we can come close. I usually buy more than I need, then return what the extra skeins.

QUESTION: I just want it to cover the bed without overhang.  thanks

Answer
Claudette,
A queen size bed is 60" x 80" (4800 sq. in.).  Based on using 2 rolls of one color and 5 of another to make a throw 52" x 59" (3068 sq. in.), and using those same ratios, the queen size should take 3 rolls of one color and 8 of the other.

If this were my project, I'd probably buy an extra roll of each color "just in case".  However, if the yarn is readily available where you shop, then I'd just wait until I needed it.

I hope this helps.

Expertise

Traditional Crochet and Filet Crochet (not clothes) I do more thread crochet than yarn.

Experience

I have been crocheting for over 50 years. As a child growing up in New Orleans, LA, I had aunts and older cousins who taught me, but now they are all gone and sadly, there is no one who crochets in my area. I hope to be able to meet fellow crocheters through this website, and I'd be delighted if I could help someone answer a question. I'm sure I'll be asking my share, also. I specifically enjoy doilies and afghans. I really like designing filet crochet. I don't make clothes, other than hats and scarves.

Education/Credentials
I learned as a child in the 50's from aunts and older cousins.
