Crochet/YOH

Question
I am working on a baby hat pattern from Bernat.  The pattern reads "ch 2. Yoh and draw up a loop around post of the next st at back of work inserting hook from right to left."  I just got done crocheting about 6 rounds (2.5 inches) of hdc stitches. I understand that it's yarn over hook but I'm lost at the rest of the instruction.  Thank you!

Dawn:

Thanks for the question.

This seems to be the popular question, I have been getting a few questions about this stitch.

Looking at the stitches, you will see that before the stitch (in this case hdc) there is a gap (one on the right and on the left side)

To do the stitch, do a yoh, then take the hook to the back of the work, and insert it on the gap to the right from back to front, then take the same hook and enter the left side from the front, to the back, you hook should be now in the back of the work, yoh and bring it back to the starting point and finish the stitch as stated in the pattern.

I hope the instructions made sense. Should you need any assistance, please let me know.

Happy Hooking
