Question
QUESTION: i have started an afghan for my granddaughter using a filet crochet pattern. the problem is the design of a dragon needs to be on one side. i thought it would be easy but how can i always start on right side and not have a slant.

ANSWER: Hi,

Any square or rectangle filet crochet always turns the work.
Only crochet in a circle  will let you stay on one side.  The picture of a dragon
will show up in filet crochet when the work turns.

Thanks.

QUESTION: i don't guess i explained correctly. this dragon pattern is on a small filet pattern. i am trying to make the afghan reg. afghan size. the dragon is in bulky yarn so in the afghan, but of diff. color. i was going to work in the dragon stitches as i went across one way that why it will have a front and back, then this problem occurred where if i continue this way it will be slanted. should i work one row and skip a stitch next row back to reg. i hope i explained correctly.  thank you

Answer
When you change a pattern, it get difficult.  I suggest you make the dragon separately and then
crochet around it catching the outline of the dragon as you crochet. To crochet on one side, go from right to left, chain 1, crochet a backward single crochet from left to right.
