Question
As with others, I too am having a problem with round 3 & 4, Just where do you put the "dc in and work fpdc around post of next dc"
Are they talking about the ch 3 from the previous row? I did that and still end up with spokes. Can you send my an illustation of rows 3 and 4? Maybe that way I can actually see where that first dc in and fpdc goes.
The website is: www.baycrochet.com/patberet.htm

Hi Marlene,
I worked the pattern, and taking into consideration the designers notes, here is what I figured out.  You almost have to ignore his actual directions.

You start Row 3 with a chain 3.  This counts as a double crochet (DC).  You work a FPDC around the Chain 3 directly below it.  Then you work a DC in the FPDC (from the previous row) to the left.  Next, work a DC in the DC to the left of that FPDC.  Now work a FPDC in that
same DC on the previous row.

The thing to remember is that on Row 3 you will have a DC in the FPDC, then a DC in the DC, then FPDC in that same DC for a total of 36 stitches.  Since you're putting the FPDC's to the left of the FPDC from the previous row, it will eventually make a spiral.  Don't ever make a FPDC around another FPDC because that's when you will just have spokes.

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you're still unclear.

Marlene,
So sorry I am just now responding to your e-mail.  If you have yahoo.com, then you know they have been undergoing changes since January 1st and today I received hundreds of e-mails that are "unread".  I am sorting through them and I have yours from the 5th.  I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Hi Marlene,
I just want to give you an update on your pattern.  I have worked the pattern the last two nights and for the life of me, I am stumped. I am very familiar with post stitches and just completed an afghan with the entire pattern being made of front and back posts.

So I went back to the website this morning and I saw where the designer had written a note at the end of the pattern about the spirals.  I had only printed the first page which had the rows you talked about.  I printed the note today, and I will try again to see if I can figure out what he's talking about.

Sometimes there is a contact e-mail where you can ask for help but there is none on the baycrochet website and the note from the designer was 1998.
I'll get back to you.  If you figure it out before I do, let me know.

Traditional Crochet and Filet Crochet (not clothes) I do more thread crochet than yarn.

Experience

I have been crocheting for over 50 years. As a child growing up in New Orleans, LA, I had aunts and older cousins who taught me, but now they are all gone and sadly, there is no one who crochets in my area. I hope to be able to meet fellow crocheters through this website, and I'd be delighted if I could help someone answer a question. I'm sure I'll be asking my share, also. I specifically enjoy doilies and afghans. I really like designing filet crochet. I don't make clothes, other than hats and scarves.

Education/Credentials
I learned as a child in the 50's from aunts and older cousins.
