QUESTION: Hi Marlra, Could you tell me the pattern for this stitch?
Thank you,
Barbara

ANSWER: Hi Barbara!
Thanks for asking! I have been looking at this and it is a little difficult to make out the stitches. My computer monitor is on its last legs, which doesn't help the viewing either, but plan to have a new one installed within the next few days. It looks like it consists of double crochet clusters, but I am not sure. It does look like crochet, but sometimes pictures can be deceiving. I have looked through some of my crochet patterns, but haven't found anything like it. I have been able to make up a similar pattern, but it may not turn out quite like that. Where did you find this picture? Was there a reference to it? I'll keep working on this to see if I may be able to come up with at least a guideline for you since it is difficult to see how many rows there are or how many clusters there are. But please let me know where you found this so I can look further into it. Hope to hear from you!

Answer
Hi Barbara!
Sorry about spelling your name wrong in the last note. Dumb typo. I haven't come up with the pattern yet, but the stitch is sort of a dc cluster. I think what you do is 3 dc in a stitch, remove the hook, insert the hook in the first dc, push it through and catch the loop you just took the off the hook, and pull it through. This gives it the "bunched up look. I am experimenting now on different ways to come up with this pattern. I'll keep you posted.

Expertise

I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in the afghan stitch, or hairpin lace. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Nearly all of my crochet magazines, leaflests, etc are over 5 years old. Many are from the 80's and before. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.

Experience

I have been a crocheter for over 30 years.
