Crochet/Spiderman afghan!

Question
Hi Marla! I'm pretty new-ish to crocheting but wanted to make a Spiderman blanket for my friend. I found a pattern online and made it to round 6, but on round 7 it says:

Rnd 7: sl st into next st, ch 3, 1 dc in next 2 sts, * 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc (small shell),
in next ch 2 space, 1 dc in next 3 sts, skip 2 sts, 1 dc in next 3 sts, repeat * around,
ending with skip 2 sts. Join

What do I do for the 1 dc (small shell)? Later on in the pattern there is also a 2 dc (large shell) and a 2 sc (large shell). Thanks in advance! :)

Here's the pattern if you need it: http://www.angelfire.com/tx5/angelcrafts/patterns/spidermanroundrippleafghan.htm

Answer
Hi Kelsee!
Thanks for asking! Welcome to crochet! It is my favorite hobby. The instructions weren't worded very clearly. The "small shell" refers to the stitches right before, which is "1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc". And you do all that in that next ch 2 space.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else! Good luck! My nephews are big Spiderman fans too.

Expertise

I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in the afghan stitch, or hairpin lace. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Nearly all of my crochet magazines, leaflests, etc are over 5 years old. Many are from the 80's and before. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.

Experience

I have been a crocheter for over 30 years.
