Expert: Marla - 2/17/2011

Question
I have a size 13 Boye hook that has .35 stamped on it. So you have any idea of when it may have been sold. It was given to me from a friend at work quite a few years ago.

Thanks for asking! This is a very good question. Boye is my favorite crochet hook. Unfortunately I can’t help you with this.  I too, have some that have a price on them. These I got from garage sales or thrift stores. I've always wondered how old they were, too. I tried some Internet searching, but all I came up with was someone else wondering the same thing, also. I looked in some of my old crochet books thinking I might be able to find a picture of a hook just to see if it may have a price, but couldn't see the writing. You may have better luck than me with searching the Internet. Or maybe if you have an older friend who has been crocheting for years, they may be able to put a date on it. I looked through some old magazines that had crafts in it, but couldn’t find any advertisements for crochet hooks. I am sorry I can’t help you. I hope you can find an answer. Perhaps you could even write to the Boye Company to see when they stopped putting prices on their hooks. But good luck in your research. If I get some answer from my searching in my magazines, I’ll let you know. Good luck!
