Question
QUESTION: I started this pattern by ch 102 and it did not work then I did it with 50 and still nothing, so I did it as the example said...

The foundation chain for this pattern consists of a multiple of 10 plus 1, plus 1 for the turning chain (for example, 30+1+1=32)

Row 1: 2SC into 2nd ch from hook*
1 SC into each of the next 3 chs. Skip
next 3 chs (a). 1 SC into each of the
next 3 chs (b). 3 SC into next ch and 1
SC into each of the next 3 chs. Rep
from * to end of row. 2 SC into final
ch. Ch 1 and turn.

When I start I chain 32 then I crochet into 2nd from chain giving me a starting point of 30-- I make all the st from *till end which means I go through 13 st which leaves me at 17 then I repeat another 13 leaving me with 4 ch.

When I did with 102 I could do 8 batches of *-Rep (13st) which did not work for I could get it down to 9 chs left which means I could not repeat the pattern hence my plea to you.  I have not made to the second row but here is what is says...

Row 2: 2 SC into the 1st st. * 3 SC, skip 2
sts,3SC, and 3SC into next st. Rep from * to
end of row. 2 SC into last st. Ch 1 and turn.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong I know it must be me for it just can not be the book.  I thought maybe I did not chain right but i re-counted so many times and followed the rules it made my head spin and what a head-ache it gave me.

Thank you for listening and more so if you can help.  I really would like this pattern to work because every time I find a chevron pattern it is always using 14 and that is way to big I do so much prefer a 3 or 4 stitch with a 3 hill and a 3 valley.

ANSWER: Rebecca:

Thanks for the question.

This is a very interesting pattern. I see where there is some issues, but hopefully I will be able to shed some light into a solution.

The pattern is a 1 + 10 + 1

So you will always do 2 sc at each end (beginning and end) you will then have stitches that are multiples of 10.

The chevron always have valley and hills. As long as you keep your valley and hills in the same location, you will be fine.

Once you have the first row established, you will have a 2 stitch skip in the valleys. 3 stitches after that, and then a 3 stitch on the next stitch, then 3 stitches, then skip 2, then 3, then 3 on same stitch, etc etc. You will end with one space left at the end, and that is where you will do the 2sc at end of row.

Keep the pattern going and you will be fine, remembering the 3, 2, 3, 3 on same, 3, 2, 3, 3 on same as the pattern states ( I am assuming it will states just repeat row 2) and that at the end of the row, you will have 4 left, 3 for stitches, and one for the 2 sc on last chain.

Hope this helps, I will agree the pattern is a bit confusing, but once you get the pattern going, you will see where it all falls into place.

QUESTION: My Question stated that was having all my troubles within the

Row 1: 2SC into 2nd ch from hook*
1 SC into each of the next 3 chs. Skip
next 3 chs (a). 1 SC into each of the
next 3 chs (b). 3 SC into next ch and 1
SC into each of the next 3 chs. Rep
from * to end of row. 2 SC into final
ch. Ch 1 and turn.

I chain 32 and 2SC into 2nd ch from hook
000000000000000000000000000000*0%

1 SC into each of the next 3 chs
000000000000000000000000000111*0

Skip next 3 chs (a).
000000000000000000000000XXX111*0

1 SC into each of the next 3 chs (b).
000000000000000000000111XXX111*0

3 SC into next ch
000000000000000000003111XXX111*0

1 SC into each of the next 3 chs.
000000000000000001113111XXX111*0

Now it says to rep from *
00001113111XXX1111113111XXX111*0

Can you tell me what I am supposed to do with those 4 ch or in this case 0's. Even if I put a sc into the end that still leaves 3 chains unattended to.  The pattern should not end some where in the middle of instruction.. always at the end right.. so I would need another 10 ch in order to fufill

Answer
Rebecca:

I am sorry, I now got what the issue is.

When you did it with the "O" I can see where the issue is, and how its not lining up.

so after some coffee and cookies, here is what I came up with, that will line up.

start with 32, then follow along -

Row one:  2111xxx1113111xxx1113111xxx1112o <

Row two: > 2111xx1113111xx1113111xx1112

I believe the "*" is in the wrong place, because the stitches do not line up with row 2.

Hope this helped, and I am sorry for the confusion in my part.

Let me know if this worked. Should you need any assistance, please let me know.
