Crochet/Sweater for Toddler

QuestionHi Ed,
It's me again, Colleen I asked some questions earlier on a pattern for a toddler's sweater. Shaping the armholes in particular is the subject of my questions. Thank you for your answer I got most of it but I'm still stuck on a couple of things, when I am starting the first row of the armhole, I have the first four slip stitches done and the ch 1 done, now the pattern says to "cont even in pat until armhole measures 5.5 ins," so am I starting that next slip stitch in the very next stitch or do I skip the next stitch? And at the end of the second row am I leaving the last four stitches unworked just like in the first row? And is this the same way to continue with rows 3 and 4 and so on?
AnswerHello Colleen:
Yes, you will do the 4 first slip stitches, then the chain one. After that, you will continue with the pattern as established, stopping to make sure you leave 4 stitches unworked at the end of that row.
Now from here on, you will continue with the pattern as established, until the armhole measure 5.5 inches. after that initial 4 stitch skip at each end, that does not get done again, till the pattern states so.
"cont even in pat" this mean continue evenly (no decreases done at each end) in the established pattern. You will have a rectangular piece, from that point on.
Hopefully this helped. Should you need any assistance, please let me know.
Thanks and have a great day
Happy Hooking
