Crochet/sc in top of ch-4?

Question
Hi,

I am working on my first crochet project (a scarf) and have been flying along until I reached this line, "Row 7: Leave 6" tail, change to B, ch1, sc in each st across, sc in top of ch-4."  My question is- what is sc in top of ch-4?  What is chain-4 (is that the 4th st or 4th row, or do they mean chain 4 stitches)? And how is "sc in top" different from regular sc'ing?

If you could help that would be wonderful as I am quite addicted to crocheting now and have had to stop because I don't know what to do next!

 Thank you!!

CN:

Thanks for the question.

SC on top of chain4 - at the end of that row, from the previous row, you should have a chain 4, the pattern is stating that you will do the sc on the fourth one on that chain ( I am assuming the beginning of the previous row stated chain4)

It is the same thing as SC, it just wants to make sure that the sc is placed on the correct place, in accordance on the look of the piece.

Hopefully this helped. Should you need any assistance, please let me know.

Happy Hooking
