Crochet/Crochet Baby Afghan border

Question
Hi Marla
I am crocheting a baby afghan designed by Terry Kimbrough from the book:So Sweet Baby Afghans by Leisure Arts.It is pictured on the cover and is #2 Heartwarming Wrap.
I have completed the centre panel and am now starting the Edging. ( Page 8 ).
Rnd 1 states: (sc,ch5) twice in each sp across to next corner sp, (sc,ch5) 6 times in corner sp, (sc,ch5) twice in next sp, ( sc in next sp, ch 5) across to next corner, then repeat for other two sides.
My question is: Why do you do (sc, ch5) twice in each space on two sides and (sc, ch5) in each sp on the other two sides?
Just wondered if this is a typo or if there is a reason to make 2 sides different from the other two?
Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Answer
Hi Marilyn!
When I went to send this message, it disappeared I don't know where it went.  So I had to type some of it over again. Fortunately I typed most of it on a word document first. Anyway, I don’t know if you got it or not, but if you get two replies from me, you know why, and I apologize.
I went and wrote down the first rnd of the border of the afghan I told you about. Leisure Arts # 3276, “Best of Terry Kimbrough Baby Afghans”. Sometimes they use the same picture. This picture shows the afghan to be pink, and the pattern looks almost like little hearts, upside down in the picture. There is also a bunny in the picture. Anyway, here it is: Rnd 1: Ch 1, turn. (Sc ch 5) 3 times in 1st corner sp * (sc, ch 5) twice in each sp across to next corner space,  (sc, ch 5) 6 times in corner space (sc, ch 5) twice in next sp, (sc in next sp, ch 5) across to next corner space * (sc, ch 5) 6 times in corner sp, repeat from * to * once, sc in first corner sp, (ch 5, sc) twice in same sp, ch 2, dc in first sc to form last ch 5 space. 318 ch 5 sp.
I hope this is what you are looking for. Let me know. If it isn’t, and I’ll try to decipher the pattern. Good luck!
Marla

Expertise

I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in the afghan stitch, or hairpin lace. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Nearly all of my crochet magazines, leaflests, etc are over 5 years old. Many are from the 80's and before. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.

Experience

I have been a crocheter for over 30 years.
