Crochet/Simply Shells Afghan by Terry Kimbrough

Question
I have finished the basic afghan and want to begin the edging. However, I just don't understand it at all. It says to work 109 sc evenly across the top and bottom and  181 sc evenly along the sides. But it doesn't say how to to this. I tried to sc in every chain along the top but that was way too much. I tried skipping every other ch but that pulled it tight and didn't look good--also did not come out to 109 scs. Also, I don't understand how to sc along the sides which have loose ch 4 all along the sides from the pattern. Help! This is for my granddaughter who is arriving any day now!

Answer
If you split each portion into separate pieces, it makes it much easier to manage. For example, if the top is 36" then 1/4 of that is 9". Over that 9" you would need to crochet 45 sts which is approximately 1/4 of 181. Three of the 4 sections on the top will have 45 sts, the 4th will have 46. Figure the same for the sides.

As for working the stitches in, just try to work them evenly spaced even if it is not a regular hole.

Hope this helps!

Congratulations on the new baby!
