Row 1: Shell in 5th ch from hook (beginning ch counts as dc, ch 1 here and throughout)...

What does the part in parentheses mean?

Thanks for the question.

Its just stating that chain 4 at the end (beginning when you turn, is part of the count (dc (3chains, and a chain 1)
