Expert: Marla - 11/5/2007
QuestionQUESTION: Making a doily from old Magic Crochet mag.cannot tell you the year since I made a photo copy of pattern. Pattern name is ROSE FILET DOILY.Row 5: dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 8 ch(this I got)then it proceeds with 3 bl: ch2 sk 2.dc in next ch. On the pattern it shows this as a 3 sided space.I am having a hard time figuring out how to do 3 bl's and get on track. This is used 5 other times in pattern.
Hope you can help.
Thanks
ANSWER: Hi Deb!
I do have a lot of old Magic crochet magazines. Hopefully I have your magazine, too. I'll go through them to try and find the pattern, and get back to you.

QUESTION: I forgot,at the end of last row ch 17,turn. The picture for this doily was on page9.The instructions on pages 17&18.
ANSWER: Hi Deb!
I didn't find that issue, but I think I found it on a website that has filet patterns, I went to star-dot.com. and found a rose filet doily. Is that the doily you are asking about? Do you mean the ending of the row where you have to add the blocks on? I am sorry to be confused. I wish I had that issue. The pattern looks very familiar like I have seen it before. Thanks for being patient. Hope to hear form you soon.

QUESTION: Hi Marla, I tried to find star-dot.com no good on this end.
Is there some way to send a you a copy of the pattern? what happens is when you ch 17 turn, you dc in 4th ch from hook and in the next 8 ch-then = 10 sps. You do the -3 bl:this gives you a 3 sided open mesh like a box with the lid open then it's ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch; dc in next 2 ch, dc in next dc. Which is the beginning of the
4th row. Is there some way to send you a copy of this pattern? Instructions NOTE:this doily recommended for experinced crocheters only. when working from the chart, below, you'll make two different size blocks:a filed ch2 block contains 2 dc plus a dc at each side: a filled ch 5 block containd 5 dc plus a dc at each end. a half filled ch 5 block contains 3 dc and 1 side dc.
This didn't seem that hard since I've done not just filet but pineapple ,and flowers just ran into this space issue. Hope this extra bit helps. Only cause I have to do it on the other end after working 3 dc-inc then the 3bl again and another 9 dc-inc to finish row.
Thanks Deb
AnswerHi Deb!
I am back again. Sorry for the delay. The 3 bl refers to the stitches you have just made. It was confusing. They should have said (3 bls), putting it into ( ) to let you know that you have just made this. The turning ch, as you know counts as a dc, and then the next nine dc complete the three blocks, which has 10 stitches total. As far as the 3-side space, do you mean at the end? If so, sometimes the tension is tight in the turning chain so that the first dc on the next row has to stretch to reach and what should be a "square" turns out to be a "triangle", if I made myself clear. To resolve this, crochet a little more loosely in the turning chain. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
