About Marla
Expertise
I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in hairpin lace, or the afghan stitch. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.

Experience
I have been a crocheter for almost 30 years.

Question
why does my yarn curl? I can't get a straight line. I have ripped out the yarn about 10 times and started over only to still get a twirl nothing comes straight What am I doing wrong?

Answer
Hi Camille!
Thanks for asking. Are you doing a single crochet? It usually curls on me, too, but straightens out after a few rows. You are probably doing nothing wrong. Sometimes crocheting too tightly, or with a too small hook can cause a curl.
Now, are you doing the afghan stitch (with the crochet hook that is about as long as a knitting needle)? I haven't done very many projects with this stitch, but it curls up on me too. And since I haven't done enough projects with this hook, I unfortunately am not sure what to tell you on this. Someone with a lot of experience with the afghan hook would be better qualified than me. But going back to the single crochet, try crocheting a short length for a few rows and see if it straightens out. I hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes. Good luck!

Marla
