About Marla
Expertise
I have crocheted many doilies, I enjoy working with crochet thread. I have crocheted numerous afghans. But I have little to no experience in hairpin lace, or the afghan stitch. If you have a question pertaining to a pattern in a magazine, book or leaflet, please include the name and # of it, and the page or pattern #. There is a slight possibility I may have that pattern, and can refer to it. Although I have crocheted sweaters and slippers,I don't feel I have done enough of them to really give good advice as to assembling the pieces, but can give advice on the type of stitches.

Experience
I have been a crocheter for almost 30 years.

Crochet - four leaf clover afghan

Expert: Marla - 11/26/2007

Question
Hi Marla, I have been looking on line to try and find a four leaf clover afghan where the clovers are crocheted into the afghan without having to stitch them on...the only pattern i have found is a graph of a four leaf clover...do you know of an actual pattern where the four leaf clover is at least 40 x40.  I want to double crochet a this blanket and make it large enough for a bed but also be to make the clovers stand out and large enough to see.  thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Zena!
Thanks for asking. I would have to check out my books and magazines to see if I have one. I don't remember if I have one or not. You may still be able to use your graph pattern and convert it into a pattern for an afghan. I crocheted a mat for my dog with his name on it and used graph paper for a pattern to spell his name. In filet crochet, a single "block" when using double crochet usually consist of four dc stitches. See if you can convert the clover into a larger one by increasing the number of squares that the shamrock covers. Since everyone's gauge is different, you will probably need to crochet a small block to determine what your gauge is. Good luck! I'll do a search through some magazines to see if I can find anything. March issues would probably be where I'll start first.
