Crohns Disease - Crohn's Disease

Expert: Odette Yuhas - 10/29/2005

Question
Do you feel that Crohn's Disease is affected by the food we eat if the disease is in the large intestines? If the answer is yes, what foods would you recommend we avoid and what foods would help us?

Answer
Hi Joyce,

Yes, CD is affected by the foods we eat.  If we eat something that is hard to digest (Corn for instance), our bodies have a harder time processing it.  Please know that it is not only the large intestine that is affected, also the small intestines.  All of us are different.  Some can eat pork (I can't)..rule of thumb, no high fiber foods work for most of us.

Hope all is well with you,
Odette
