Answer
Hi Monica,

Nope, seldom do I or most of us call the doctor when we have regular flares.  What you need to watch out for is bleeding in the stools, throwing up (may be caused by an obstruction)and fevers. Watch out what foods he eats.  No fried foods, no corn, popcorn, lettuce and those kinds of foods that do not digest well. A good rule of thumb is:  If you have a hard time digesting the foods, then he will end up in pain because it causes the intestines to over work.   Yes, it is so normal for him to have days where he is litle to no energy.  It is our way of having to shut down.  CD takes a lot out of us and our bodies tell us when to stop. l

A Flare up can be runs like crazy or our intestines "twisting" so that we can't even stand up.  Going to the bathroom 17 times a day is not uncommon for us, but if this happens, I would contact the doctor as he could become dehydrated, so watch out for that.

Please email me any time you need to.  If you would like to know some support groups on the internet, let me know.
