Cross Stitch/two colors for same stitch

Question
Hello, I'm new to cross stitching but I believe I started with a complex project for my skill level. My pattern shows 2 colors for the same stitch (divided by a diagonal "outline" black line). How do you divide the stitch in order to include both colors?
And a second question. How many stitches apart is it reasonable to jump with the same color, as opposed to cutting the threat and restarting on the new location?
Thank you in advance for your help! Lola

Answer
Lola,

It sounds like a quarter stitch. If you are working on Aida, then you will come up in the appropriate corner of the stitch and then put the needle through in what would be the center of the square. Where a stitch would cross. Then you will do the same with the other color from the opposite corner. You may have to use the outline stitch to cross the stitch, but you may not have to. Here is a link to a stitch dictionary that will be very helpful!
