Cross Stitch/working over two threads of fabric

Question
I have a pattern that says to use four strand of floss over two threads of fabric.  Can you give more specific instructions?  If you use two squares by the time you cross your stitch to make an x you will be using four squares.  This seems like a large x.  The kit I bought is expensive and I don't want to start out by messing it up.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank You

Answer
Cindy,

The directions sound correct. It would help if I knew what the kit was of. There are several kits for tree skirts and stockings that are on 10 or 14 count and worked over two.

You come up and count over two threads and up two threads and go down through that hole. Count over two threads under the fabric, come up and count over two and down two threads and go back down. That makes one complete stitch.

I am thinking from the directions calling for 4 strands that is supposed to be over 2 even if it is big stitches.

I hope I was helpful! Good luck!

Happy Stitching!
Kris
