Cross Stitch/Aida Cloth

Question
A friend gave me a cross stitch pattern that requires 28 count fabric.  I can find the Linen in 28, but it's really small.  Does Aida cloth come in 28 count?  Can I convert to a lower count without a problem?  I realize my project will get bigger....but I don't think I can work with the 28 count.  Too small!!!!  Thanks  MJ

Answer
Hello, Mary Jo

No, Aida doesn't come in 28 count.  28 count is typically an evenweave fabric, and designs are stitched over 2 of the fabric threads, not 1.

You can stitch ANY project on ANY fabric, including Aida. :)  Just remember to add a minimum of 3" to the design size in order for the design to fit properly on the fabric.  For instance, if your design is 5"x7", you'll need to make the fabric 8"x10".

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

Expertise

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
