Cross Stitch/Never stitched on Evenweave
Expert: Angela - 6/15/2008
QuestionQUESTION: Hi. I am attempting my first cross stitch pattern on evenweave. I'm doing Bucilla's "footprints" and even though evenweave scares me, I think that the pattern is fairly simple enough that I should not have to convert to Aida.
However, one thing that my pattern is unclear about is what the mini stitchs mean. I know that when I am doing evenweave, I go over two strands to make my x's. However, what does it mean when it shows a little symbol in the corner? do I make a mini x using only one? some have two mini symbols in the same box, so do I make to mini x's? Or do I start to do 1/2 stitches and/or quarter and 3/4 quarter stitches? and how do I tell if it's half, 1/4 or 3/4? Thank you!!!
ANSWER: Hello, Jodi :)
The "mini stitches" means that you'll be making 1/4 stitches. They are made as this example:

The above website should be able to help you with your stitching. It illustrates stitches using evenweave "fabric", which will be easier for you to comprehend.
I hope that helps. Good luck, and happy stitching! :)
Sincerely,
Angela :)

QUESTION: Thank you.
But what do I do when there is one box, but two symbols in the same box? Is it two quarter stitches? Thanks again!
AnswerHello again, Jodi :)
Yes, that'll be 2 little quarter stitches in the same box. Once you get the hang of it, it's extremely easy. Just take your time when you're stitching, and when you do the backstitching, you'll see everything fall in to place, just like a jigsaw puzzle. :)
I think you'll be pleased with the results when you've finished your project. :)
Sincerely,
Angela :)
