Cross Stitch/22 count Aida

Question
QUESTION: Hi! I have been cross stitching for the past few years. I am now working in a project that uses 22 count aida. I usually work with 14 or 18 count. I have done one project with evenweave.

I notice the squares are extremely small with the 22 count (of course) so do I cross stitch the same with the 22 count aida as I would 14 count? I shouldn't cross stitch as I do with evenweave do I?

Thank you!

ANSWER: Donna,

I usually stitch over 2 (each stitch covers 4 squares) like you do on evenweave. The best way to tell is to check the finished size in inches. Compare this to the stitch count. If the stitch count is

110 x 88- divide both by 22 and get 5 x 4. If that is the finished size than you will stitch over 1. If the finished size is 10 x 8, then you will stitch over 2.

I hope this is helpful! Please feel free to ask me more questions in the future.

Happy Stitching!

QUESTION: Thanks! I guess that I am to stitch over 1 since it's 178 x 106 stitches and the finish size is 8x5.

I hope I am supposed to be using 2 pieces of thread since I have already started. I tried 1 and it just doesn't fill the space like I prefer it to. I hope it's okay to use 2 thread on 22 count?

Thanks again for your help.

Answer
Donna,

Two strands is fine for 22 count over 1. It will give you very complete coverage. I did a series by Barbara & cheryl on 22 count over 1 with 2 threads and they turned out beautifully.

Good luck with your piece.

Happy Stitching!
