Question
I am going to cross stitch my first bread cover and I don't know where to start stitching since it is a corner design. I want to make sure it is centered. I've made many projects but never in the corner of a cloth. Help!

Answer
Hello, Marisa :)

Congratulations on stitching your first bread cover.  These are SO easy to do. :)

Simply take the bread cover, and find the corner.  Find the very last cross stitch square in the corner of the bread cover.  Count over 10 from that corner going left, and then count up about 8 or 10 squares.  Insert a needle diagonally in that spot.  Be sure that you have exactly the same amount of squares from that spot to the right side where the thread is before the fringe.  You can also count from the very corner square diagonally going up about 10 squares and then insert your needle to mark your starting point.

On the design, simple follow the last row on the design (both along the horizontal, and again on the vertical) to find your corner for the bread cover.  If there's no symbol to start from, simply begin your design with the first symbol that you see from that starting point.  When you have finished your design, it should be centered in that corner.

I hope that helps and makes sense.  Good luck, again congratulations, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
