Cross Stitch/aida cloth

Question
My pattern calls for using 30 ct linen, but I would like to convert it to aida, so what count aida should I use. I ask as I have buttons that represent heads on little monsters for a Halloween project. I want to make sure that the button heads aren't to small or large for the monster bodies.   thanks

Answer
Hi there!

I will be happy to help you with your question. When you stitch on linen, you usually use a technique called over 2. That is where your stitch covers 4 squares instead of one. So stitching over 2 on 30 count would give you 15 stitches per inch. Which would be the same as working on 15 count Aida, which they don't make. You could use either 14 or 16 count Aida. The 16 count is very hard to find and the 14 count comes in a wider variety of colors. I hope this was helps. Good luck on your project!
Happy Stitching!
