Question
Hello Angela
can u tell me it is better to stitch over 2 fabric threads or 1 on a 18 count aida? the pattern that i want to work on it was made on a 28 count and stitched over two fabric threads.

Answer
Hello, Irina

I've never stitched over 2 fabric threads when stitching on 18 count Aida as I've always stitched over the 1, just like you would stitch over one if you were to stitch onto 14 count Aida.

The 28 count fabric that this pattern is suggesting is an evenweave fabric, which isn't like the Aida that we're used to stitching over.  So, yes, you would need to stitch over 2 of the fabric threads if you're going to use the 28 count fabric.  Otherwise, your design will be very small when it's completed if you stitched over 1 fabric thread on the 28 count fabric.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching. :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
