Question
QUESTION: Hi Angela, I have a pattern for a Christmas stocking that calls for 28 ct Jobelan. The finished size is supposed to be 10.3" X 15.15" and 144W X 212 H stitches. The pattern doesn't say whether to stitch over 1 or 2, but according to some of your other Q&A it looks like it should be stitched over 2.  If that is true, can I then use 14 ct Aida and stitch over 1 and still have a stocking that measures 10.3" X 15.15"? (PS: I'd go blind trying to do 28ct!)  Thanks, Carol

ANSWER: Hello, Carol

Yes, you can use 14 count Aida instead of the Jobelan, but I would suggest using a minimum of 2 strands of floss while stitching on to the 14 count Aida.  You can also use 3 strands if you'd like to give it a bit more coverage on the fabric.  Keep in mind, though, that the stocking size would be different than the 10.3"x15.15".

If you stitched onto the 28 ct Jobelan, you would need to stitch over 2 fabric threads using 2 strands of floss.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching. :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

QUESTION: If I stitched with the 14 ct aida and stitched over one, what size stocking would I end up with? (Please refer to my original question.)

Answer
Hello, Carol

From what I understand with 14 count Aida, there is 10 squares per 1".  Since the original design was stitched on 28 count Jobelan over 2 fabric threads, then I would think that if you stitched it onto 14 count Aida, it may end up being the same size when completed.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching. :)

Sincerely,

Angela
