Cross Stitch/how to transfer a cross stitch design

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I created a very simple cross stitch design of a reindeer.  I want to stitch it several times on many pillow cases.  I want to stitch it around the width of the pillow cases -- so the reindeer may repeat 12 or 15 times -- whatever works.  I don't want to use a light box and mark the "x's" repeatedly.  Is there another faster way?  It is not counted cross stitch, I will stitch directly onto the pillow case.  Thank you for your help.

ANSWER: Hello, Peggy

I would suggest using waste canvas, which is like the Aida cloth, but you actually stitch on it, and then remove the canvas threads after you've completed your design.  The result will be the stitches are on the pillow cases, but the waste canvas won't be.  And, if stitched correctly, your X's should be in the same holes as if you stitched it onto Aida.  It comes in a few different counts, including 14 count.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

QUESTION: Hi Angela, how do I get the reindeer design onto the waste canvas?

Answer
Hello, Peggy

You don't get the design onto the waste canvas (ie. print it).  Instead, you simply stitch the design onto the waste canvas as you normally would if you stitching the same design onto 14 count Aida.  Once the design is complete, you simply pull the threads of the waste canvas away, and your stitching will remain in place.

Here are a couple of links that could help you with the process:

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
