About Angela
Expertise
I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)

Cross Stitch - preparing 25 count linen for cross stitch

Question
Purchased floss and linen for White Buffalo Woman project & it says to use 25 count linen - how do i prepare it - do i grid it before stitch? also can i use hoop to keep tension sure? thanks

Answer
Hello, Romaine

In order to make sure that the edges don't fray while you're stitching, I would use Stop Fray on the edges.  It's a glue to hold the fabric threads together so that they don't unravel as you're stitching.

Otherwise, you could wash your fabric in barely warm water by hand, wrap in a towel, squeeze out the excess water, and allow to dry by air, then iron it flat before stitching.  I normally don't wash fabric before stitching on it as most of the time it's not necessary.  That is only my preference.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)
