Question Hello,
1st, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I have been cross stitching for about 20 years. I have recently purchase a program to transfer a picture into cross stitch...Which I have done. But my problem is that I don't know how much cloth to purchase for my project. I mainly use 14 count. I know that it is 10 stitches per inch, but I really don't want to mess this one up. It is an anversary present. I know it is a simple answer, but this is the frist time that I am not using a pattern from a preprinted book. Thank you
Answer Hello, Jenny :)
First of all, my sincerest apologies for not getting back to you on your question. My internet crashed yesterday as I was trying to click on your question to answer, and it didn't come back up until this morning. Have to love technology. :)
If you're using a computer cross stitch pattern maker such as PC Stitch, when you printed out your pattern, you should see your color legend, and at the top there should be the design size. The design size is what you'll need to go by to determine the amount of fabric to use. For instance, if your design size is 50x70 stitches, then your design size will be approximately 5"x7". You would need to cut your fabric an extra 6" all around, which would make the fabric size 11"x13", and that will allow extra fabric for hoop placement, especially if you're using a Q-Snap hoop (which I highly recommend using).
I hope that helps. Good luck, and happy stitching! :)
