About Angela
Expertise
I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)

Question
I have a cross stitch design that will finish 10" x 10" on 14-count Aida cloth.  If I stitch it out on 11-count, how much larger will it be?  Is there a formula to figure out how much a design will enlarge/reduce based on the count of the cloth you use?  Thanks!!!

Answer
Hello, Tomme

I'm not sure how much larger your project will be when it's completed.  The normal formula is 10 squares of 14 count per 1" (approximately).  I would think that you may end up with approximately 5 squares of the 11 count per 1".  That's just an approximation, however.

I would suggest trying a few stitches using 3 strands of floss when stitching on 11 count, and if you don't like the coverage of the material with the stitches, try increasing the amount of strands until you get the desired coverage.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching!

Sincerely,

Angela :)
