About Angela
Expertise
I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)

Question
Hi Angela,
I have a cross stitch project I want to do that is 300 x 301 on 25ct evenweave over 1. I would like to do this project on Aida. What size Aida count do I use and how much fabric do I need.I would like to use an Aida count of 18 or 20.  Also, will using a lower count fabric cause the design to look less detailed or sharp. Thanks Amy

Answer
Hello, Amy

The amount of fabric that you would need would be an approximate size of 60"x60" as there is 10 stitches to the inch (approximately, that is).  I'm guessing that your design size is 30x30, or thereabouts.  So, you would need to make sure that your fabric is at least 60"x60", with a 3" margin all around for framing.  I would cut it at least another 1" more to make sure that the design fits properly, AND you have more fabric to wrap around some acid-free mounting board when you're ready to frame it.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)
