About Angela
Expertise
I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)

Question
Hi. I was wondering how to tell what count of Aida cloth I need to get. I have a pattern book for a baby afghan, the booklet says the designed were stitched on a 16 ct aida from Zweigart, My local stores only have charles craft supplies. I am not sure what I need to get?

Answer
Hello, Tawnya

The "16 ct Aida" is exactly that... 16 count Aida.  You can purchase it from this website:

http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-perl/fabric/aida_fabric.pl

You'll need to scroll down to see the different sizes of Aida fabric.  You can stitch any design onto anything that you wish.  You don't have to stick with the 16 count, if you don't want to.  Even 14 count is fine. :)  Plus that website that I gave you has a wide variety of colors to choose from.

Be sure to get a large enough piece for the margin.  For instance, if you'll be framing your picture, and the design size is 5"x7", you'll need to have a piece of fabric at least 11"x13" to ensure that you've got extra for framing, and if the design isn't quite centered perfectly (this has happened to me before).

Plus, if you want to stitch on it, they also sell the afghan fabric, too:

Hope that helps. :)  Good luck, and happy stitching!

Sincerely,

Angela :)
