Question
QUESTION: I wanted to see if a pattern for a 16 count can be put on to a 14 count and how to do it. would the pitcher just be smaller?

thanks for your help
Angela

ANSWER: Hello, Angela

Yes, you can stitch your design onto 14 count.  There is no conversion needed to do so.  Be sure to measure your fabric 6" extra on all sides.  For instance, if your design is 6"x6", be sure to cut your fabric 12"x12".  This allows extra for framing, and in case your design isn't centered properly.  The design will be slightly larger when you have completed your stitching.  16 count Aida is slightly smaller than 14, and 18 count is smaller than 14 and 16 count.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching!

Sincerely,

Angela :)

QUESTION: I'm sorry I forgot to mention the cross stitch is on a cross stitch decorative hand towel. the Aida measures 3 inches wide. what I want to put on it is some birds that fits on  16 count. will it still work on there? You have help with knowing the 16 is smaller. I now know I can do others on a 14 count fabric. thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello, Angela

Yes, it should work.  Just be sure to count the amount of stitches on the pattern, and then count the amount of squares on the band to be sure that the pattern will fit nicely on the area where you want the birds to be.

I hope that makes sense.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
