Cross Stitch/Backstitch to highlight design

Question
I just finished doing a picture called tulip trio.  It is now time to backstitch the picture as shown in the pattern.  The pattern lines most often end up a curved shape but if I keep my stitches in the holes my lines will appear angular.  Is it okay to go between stitches to get a curved shape or should I just follow the holes and sometimes end up splitting between 2 colors (e.g. background brown and tulip pink).  I hope I have been clear enough about what I mean.  Thanks

Answer
Hello, Betty

I would think it would be ok to between the stitches.

The only thing that I can suggest is trying it both ways, and see how it looks to you.  You can always remove the stitching if one way doesn't look good, and then try it the other way.

I hope that helps.

Sincerely,

Angela

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
