Question
Hi Kris,
The pattern I got for my next cross stitch says to do it on 25 count Dublin Linen/Evenweave over 1. This is my first time using linen, but I think I am ready to try linen. However, I don't know if I should use 1 or 2 strands of floss (I plan on doing the whole piece with full crosses for more coverage). What do you recommend? Also, is there a difference between linen and evenweave?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Kacyenne,

25 count linen is wonderful! The difference in linen and evenweave is that linen is a natural fiber and evenweave is a synthetic fiber. The linen will have inconsistencies. The threads themselves will get thicker and thinner. Where as with evenweave, the threads are a consistent thickness. A piece stitched on linen has a different look than a piece stitched on evenweave.

As a judge of cross stitch, I take in to consideration that the stitches will not be perfect even on a piece stitched on linen. I look for consistent tension and the way the stitches lay (no twisting and all going in the same direction).

On 25 count linen I would definitely recommend 2 strands. You will get much better coverage. I only recommend one strand on 32 or higher count linen or evenweave.

Good luck on your project!
Happy Stitching!
Kris
