Cross Stitch/lugana vs aida

Question
I have a project that calls for 25 ct lugana.  I have never worked with this fabric before.  If I wanted to use aida instead what count would I use to be the closest to the lugana?

Answer
Hello, Vickie :)

Lugana fabric is an evenweave fabric.  You typically stitch a design over 2 of the fabric threads using 2 strands of floss.  Some people will stitch over 1 fabric thread using 1 strand of floss, making the finished project so much smaller.

I would recommend using 14 count Aida, as that's about comparable to the 25 count Lugana fabric.  Be sure to add 6" to the design size to allow for framing (ie. if the design size was 5"x7", you would cut your fabric 11"x18").

I hope that helps.  Good luck and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
