Question
I have a old cross stitch project I did about 20 yrs ago for my parents...I have recently recieved it back and would like to reframe it, the only problem is that is rather dingy, aida cloth being pretty discolored. I have soaked it in laundry detergent, but it is not helping. Can I put it in bleach water? or will that dicolor the DMC floss? I don't want to ruin it, it is a very precious project. Please help me!!! thank you

Please do not use bleach!!! Try making a paste of oxyclean and ivory liquid and brushing that on the dingy areas. Then soak it overnight in cool water. Rinse and repeat. Try not to wring the fabric. You may have to do this several times to get it clean. Rinse it well each time and allow to air dry. After you get it clean, lay it face down on a white towel, cover the back with a thin hand towel and press it gently. Then take it to a framer that hand stretches needlework. Do not take it to someone who uses a spray adhesive. Ask for archival glass also. It is a little more expensive, but it will preserve you piece for years to come.

Enjoy your precious piece!

Happy Stitching!
