Cross Stitch/Can Aida be turned sideways

Question
Is there a particular way that Aida should be oriented?  If I have a design that is 22 x 17.  Can I use a piece of Aida that is 20 x 30 and turn it sideways?

Answer
Debra,

Aida is the same both ways, so no particular way it should be turned. It will be fine to work this project on. But be very careful with the placement, you will only have about an inch and half on each side of the 17 inches. I try to cut my piece of fabric so that I have at least 2 inches on each side (or 4 inches larger then the design size - so 22 x 17 I could cut 26 x 21).

Happy Stitching!
