Question
I am trying to cross stitch a Christmas stocking for my new grandson. My problem it is calling for size 139 x 210 and it is calling for me to enlarge outline 160%. Could you please help me to figure out stocking size and how do I increase to 160%. Thank You.

Answer
Jackie,

I think it is telling you to increase the outline by 160% just for finishing purposes. You will still stitch the stocking to be 139 x 210. If you are stitching this on 14 count Aida, your finished stitch size would be

139/14= 10 inches

210/14= 15 inches

You divide your stitch count by your fabric count to figure your design size out.

But you need to leave plenty of extra material to finish it! To increase by 160% you should multiply the design size x 1.6

10 inches x 1.6 = 16 inches

15 inches x 1.6 = 24 inches.

Make sure to start the stocking in the center of the fabric so that you have plenty of fabric on every side to finish it!

I hope this was helpful!

Happy Stitching!
