Question
Hi Angela.... I have completed a Baby Sampler for my Gran'child....I did frame it myself...but noticed recently that the Sampler has 'wrinkled' inside the frame.....I obviously needed to stretch it before framing....and wondered how I do this?  I also do a lot of Tapestry work and 'square up' the piece by stretching it and tacking it to a board for a time before framing...would this work with cross-stitch?...Thank You for your time I look forward to hearing from you. Margaret

Answer
Hello, Margaret

The only way that I can suggest is by doing this:

1.  Wash it gently by hand.

2.  Press it.

3.  Then attach it to an acid-free mounting board.

I think the term is called "blocking".

Otherwise, I haven't stretched anything using stretcher bars.   I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

Expertise

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
