Cross Stitch/Lugana vs. Linen

Question
I am getting ready to try out a new Hardanger project that calls for Lugana.  My last Hardanger project was on linen and I really enjoyed it and liked how it turned out.  I've been using a variety of fabrics in recent months--monaco, fiddler's cloth, jobelan, carolina linen.  I've found I love evenweave fabrics and stitching over two.  I also found I HATE jobelan, since it is so stretchy.  What type of fabric is lugana?  I know it's evenweave, but is it more sturdy like monaco or linen?  Or is it stretchy like jobelan?  How would it affect my project to do it in linen instead of lugana?  I have a really fine piece of linen that I was thinking of using.....  Can you give me some guidance?  Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Angel,

Luguana is not as stretchy as Jobelan, but not as sturdy as linen. It is very soft. I think it is beautiful for large pieces with lots of bead work, but I wouldn't use it for hardanger. I think hardanger is the most beautiful when done on linen. So I would stick with what you like! The linen sounds perfect!

I hope this helps you! Good luck with your piece!

Happy Stitching!
