Cross Stitch/Converting a chart

Question
I started a chart that was a frame for a picture.  The directions said to stitch on 14 count cloth. I started the project before I realized I was using 18 count cloth.  The picture fits well in the 14 count pattern but not so well in 18 count.  How do I convert the pattern?  Being a simple rectangular frame, all the stitches are the same color and going the same direction. Would it just be a matter of adding stitches to each side of the frame?  If so, what is the ratio?

Thank you!

Amy

Answer
Amy,

First let me apologize for taking so long to answer your question. My father has been very I'll and in and out of the hospital.

now for your question. You will be adding stitches! If the frame opening is for a 5x7 photo and it is a 2 inch wide frame, then the frame is actually 9x11. On 14 count, there are 14 stitches per inch. The top would have 9 inches across and 2 inches down from the top - so 9x14 is 126 stitches and 2x14 is 28 on 18 count it would 9x18 is 162 stitches. The sides are 2 inches wide by 7 inches tall. On 14 count that would be 2x14 is 28 stitches and 7 x14 is 98. On 18 count it would be 2 x 18 is 36 and 7 x 18 is 126 stitches. Then repeat the top measurements.

I hope I explained it well enough. Good luck with your project!

happy stitching!
