Cross Stitch/enlarge design to tapestry size

Question
How do I enlarge a design from 21.4"x14.0" stitched on 14 count or 16.7"x10.9" stitched on 18 count to an example tapestry size of 54"W x 37"H? Not sure what type or count of material to use, amount of floss strands to use, and count of threads to stitch to achieve such a large size. Thank you.

Answer
Hello, Julie

You can try stitching over 2 fabric threads of the 18 count (as opposed to the 1 that you normally would stitch over), and use 3 strands of thread, or you can try stitching over 2 fabric threads on the 14 count Aida, and use at least 3 strands of floss.  You may need to increase the number of strands of floss for better coverage.  You could also try stitching on 11 count Aida, and you'll need to use 6 strands of floss minimum (depending on the amount of coverage you want).

That's the only thing that I can think of that may be able to help you.  I wish you good luck.

Sincerely,

Angela

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
