Cross Stitch/Aida cloth count
Expert: Angela - 8/13/2006
QuestionThank you for that response. The instructions for the current pattern taht I am stitching require that I use 24 count Aida. I am having trouble finding 24 count Aida. Can you give me ideas as to where I might find this count cloth, or what alternatives I might have? If I try to stitch on a smaller count, the end result is going to be HUGE! Thank you again for your help. Look forward to hearing your advice.

When looking at Aida cloth, you can buy it in 14 count, 24 count, 28 count, etc. What do the different numbers mean? Do they make a big difference?
Thank you,

Hello, Karn Ann :)
The 14 count Aida will make a larger sized picture than the 28 count. The higher the number of the fabric, the smaller the picture will be. If you were to stitch your picture on 10 count Aida cloth, your picture will be much larger than if it was stitched onto 14 count.
I hope that helps and makes sense. :) Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Angela :)
AnswerHello, Karn Ann :)
Try looking at your local Hobby Lobby or Michaels stores. Also, some fine embroidery shops might also carry that, as well. It's not an Aida cloth, but a fabric called "evenweave". If you can't find 24 count, you can also use 22 count evenweave. You'll need to stitch over 2 threads of either choice of fabric using 2 strands of thread.
Just remember, the higher the fabric count number (ie. 22, 24, 26, etc.) the smaller the project will be. The lower the number (ie. 18, 14, 11, etc., Aida cloth), the larger your project will be.
Please feel free to contact me again if you should require further assistance. :) Good luck, and happy stitching! :)
Sincerely,
Angela
