Question
QUESTION: I just purchased a DIMENSIONS House-Mouse Designs counted cross-stitch kit. The kit comes with 18-count Aida and I'd rather use 14-count. Will I have enough threads included in the kit to complete a larger design?

ANSWER: Hello, Karen :)

You can use 14 count Aida with this, or any cross stitch projects. :)  Just remember to purchase enough to add a minimum of 3" margin around the design.  For instance, if the design was 12"x12" square, you'd need to purchase 15"x15".

I normally use 2 strands of thread when stitching on 14 count.  You CAN use 3 if you'd like more coverage, and it'll make the picture a bit more solid.  2 strands are typically used for 14, and 18 counts, plus for evenweave fabrics.  3 or more strands are used for 11 count.

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

QUESTION: Thank you...I did buy enough of the AIDA 14 count. I'm concerned that the threads included with the 18-count design kit won't be enough now that my design will be larger.

Answer
Hello again, Karen :)

IF your pattern has DMC numbers on it, you should be able to finish your project with your DMC floss.  Janlynn kits have DMC numbers listed on their patterns.

I hope that further helps you.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
