Question
Hello,
I just purchased a cross stitching stocking kit.  I have cross stitched before, way back in home economics in high school.  Needless to say, I haven't done it for a very long time.  Do most of these kits have step-by-step instructions?  Will I be able to figure it out or will I need to purchase some type of how-to book?  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hello Nicole,

Welcome back to the world of cross stitching!

Most kits these days are very user friendly. Patterns come in two types.

The first is the pre-stamped cross stitch. They are the easiest, because the places where you need to cross stitch are already marked for you. The chart shows you what color to put in each area. It's like a fabric version of paint-by-number.

The second is the counted cross stitch. This type gives you a blank piece of fabric with a very well-organized chart to follow of where to place your stitches. With this type of cross stitch you would find the center of your fabric piece by folding it evenly horizontally and then vertically. Then you would find the center of your the chart, (usually indicated by arrows on the sides of the chart), and you would work from the center out.

Either way, your stocking kit will come with all the supplies and instructions you will need to finish the pattern. If you do encounter any problems are have any more questions, please let me know. I would be more then happy to help in any I can. Good luck!

I hope this helps.

Needlecrafts have been a part of my life for years. I sew, cross stitch, knit, crochet and bobbin lace, just to name a few. Cross stitch was one of the firsat crafts that I learned as a child and has stayed with me as a wonderful and peaceful artistic way to express myself.
