Cross Stitch/Colors that have run

Question
I just finished a birth sampler and washed it in cool water and woolite.  Unfortunately the yellow has run onto the white fabric in one spot.  What can I do to remove the color run?

Answer
Hello, Dorene :)

The yellow thread shouldn't have run onto the fabric as it was washed in the cool water.  I've never heard of that before, especially since you used Woolite and that's supposed to be safe, mild detergent to use on anything.  Unfortunately, there isn't anything that I can think of that you can use for dye runs, as I've never had that happen to me before.

When I wash my projects, I normally use cold water wash and rinse, and liquid dishwashing detergent (very small squirt of that).

The only suggestion that I can think of is to start the project over again, and perhaps use the dishwashing detergent in cold water, and not use Woolite.  It may have been the Woolite itself that has something in it that may have made the thread's dye run.

Try rewashing it in cold water (not cool), and mild dishwashing detergent and use a very clean little brush and gently scrub that dye spot off.  That's the only thing that I can think of at this time.

My apologies for not being able to help you any further on this.

Good luck with this.

Sincerely,
Angela

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
