Question
I wish to change the count on a project I am wanting to do. The kit is done on 28 count aida cloth (design size is 15" x 13") and I am wanting to stitch it on no smaller than 20 count. How do I calculate how much cloth I need? I came up with about 30" x 26" (design size). Is there a formula to calculate the change?

Answer
Hello, Delia ;)

In order to figure out the amount of fabric that you would need, simply add a minimum of 3" all around the design size.  For example, if your design size is 30"x26", you'll need to cut your fabric a minimum of 33"x29".  You CAN cut it up to 6" all around, which would make your fabric 36"x32".  This will allow extra fabric for the design and for framing. :)

I hope that helps.  Good luck, and happy stitching! :)

Sincerely,

Angela :)

Expertise

I have 22+ years of cross stitching experience, which includes stitching on Aida, evenweave linen, vinyl canvas, and have stitched a design on a cotton t-shirt using waste canvas. I have also worked with beads and blending filament in quite a few projects. I have made many projects which include cross stitched mugs, a keychain, pictures, magnets, and the cotton t-shirt. I can answer questions pertaining to preparing and cleaning fabric, preparing clothing for stitching, how many threads to be used on which Aida cloth, and will try to help you to the best of my ability with other questions you may have. I am prompt in my responses and usually answer within 24 hours from when you ask your question. I look forward to helping you. :)
